How I Teach
(Studio Policy)

Good teaching creates a lifelong desire to learn. I achieve this by learning students’ goals, providing the tools needed to pursue them, and by making the journey to achieving them an enjoyable experience. When students develop a passion for learning, their progress increases. I use this momentum to push students to their limits and to inspire them to aspire to attain greater forms of accomplishment.

In my music studio, I foster the “whole” musician, meaning that each student will develop a variety of musical skills, such as reading, improvisation, playing by ear, and composing. These skills are vital to achieving growth. With this in consideration, I welcome any musical interest into my music studio. Whether students have pop star ambitions, classical competition goals, or film music appreciation, studying piano and “whole” musicianship helps them to understand music and explore it in innovative ways.

About Me

I'm a concert pianist, composer, and teacher, leading performance and pedagogy into the future, perfecting “what is” and experimenting with “what could be.” Through my teaching business, the Oill Piano Universe, I help open up the minds of creative musicians around the world, and I give them the tools to succeed in their own niche way. In addition to teaching, I also assist in production work for the Faber Piano Adventures and publish pedagogical piano music through the FJH Music Company, inc. My piano compositions have been described as “unique” and “refreshing,” so they make a nice addition to any piano teacher’s sheet music library.

I hold an MM in Piano Performance Pedagogy from Arizona State University, and a BM in Piano Performance and Music Education from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. I have held multiple positions on the Arizona State Music Teachers Association board, adjudicated for several piano and composition competitions in the USA, and given creative presentations to music teachers around the globe, including at prominent events like the Music Teachers National Association National Conference and the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy.
